Laem Sor Pagoda

oldest and most revered Buddhist saints on the island.

Things to see

The “Golden Pagoda”

The “Golden Pagoda” is impressive in size; it is more than any other stupa in this part of Thailand. It is paved with ceramic tiles, which sparkles brightly in the sun in fine weather and gives the impression of a golden tint. Parishioners are greeted by a statue of a seated monk under an awning. The entrance to the sanctuary is guarded by two ominous rakshas with huge swords.

Boat Hall

Boat Hall is located a hundred meters to the left of the chedi, if you stand facing the water. This is a small glazed building with a boat inside. On the ship is a sarcophagus with a wax figure of a monk and models of ships of different sizes. Believers bring them in gratitude for the prayers heard by the Buddha.

Temple in the shape of a boat

Temple in the shape of a boat is “moored” in the middle of a small tank a little further off the pavilion. It is dedicated to sailors. Inside the temple are seafarers' things and religious relics.

Rattanakosin Chedi

Rattanakosin Chedi is located to the right of the shrines of the coastal lowlands on a high hill with an acclivity. The magnificent white pagoda is also known as Khao Chedi. Historically, the building is directly connected with the Lai So pagoda, which first appeared on the mountain, in the place of Khao Chedi in 1907.

The first pagoda was erected of coral bricks. They were bonded with resin and honey. Every day a thousand Thais lined up and passed building material to each other. Six months later the object was completed and already in 1908 part of the relics of Buddha brought from Sri Lanka by the monk Prakru Piboon Thammasan was delivered to the storage. But 60 years later, lightning fell into the pagoda on the hill and completely destroyed the building. The new sanctuary was set down below the coast, and the old one was renovated only in 2003.

Baby Buddha Jaidee

Baby Buddha Jaidee with a forefinger instructively raised up is right there on the hill next to the white pagoda. He is surrounded by a whole ensemble of statues: Buddha sitting, lying, Buddha symbolizing the days of the week and other interesting sculptures from religious oriental mythology.

Things to do

Have a picnic

Have a picnic near Laem So Pagoda. Tours are not taken here and there are almost no tourists. There are tables and benches in the shade of casuarine trees, where you can make a halt in complete solitude, enjoying the surf, a light breeze and the pacification of this place of power. The pagoda stands on the edge of the coast, constantly washed by the waves of the Pacific Ocean. It is always windy, and therefore very comfortable on hot days.

Feed the carps

Feed the carps in a pond next to the pagoda. Fish food is sold in a tent, located on the territory of the temple complex.

Relax at Bang Kao Beach

The picturesque sandy foreland to the right of the golden stupa looks like a picture from a postcard. A great opportunity to encourage yourself to be a serene pastime after a walk among several Buddhist shrines.
